Accessibility

Accessibility isn't a settings menu. It's the whole point.

For a product made for children who learn differently, accessibility is the entire thesis — not a checkbox at the end. It shapes every game in the app, and every page of this website. Try it for yourself below.

Try it on this very page.

The same comfort options that shape the app shape this site. Toggle them and watch everything respond — then find them any time using the button in the corner.

In the app

What "accessible by default" actually means.

Concrete commitments, built in from the first pixel — so a child can succeed by sight, by sound, or by touch.

Big, forgiving targets

Child tap zones of 80px and up — far beyond the WCAG minimum.

Audio-first, captioned

Every instruction is spoken, repeatable and captioned. No reading required to play.

Reduced motion & calm mode

Slows or removes animation and anything sudden. No flashing, ever.

High-contrast palettes

Clear, high-contrast visuals with distinct shapes as well as colour.

Tap instead of drag

Every drag has a simple tap alternative — no fine motor control required.

Screen-reader & switch ready

Built to work with VoiceOver, TalkBack and switch-access devices.

Positive-only feedback

Trying always counts. No losing, no punishment — only exploring.

Plain language

Short, literal instructions — no idioms, no clutter, no surprises.

The standard we hold ourselves to

WCAG 2.2 AA across the board — and further where it counts.

We treat WCAG 2.2 AA as the floor, not the goal. On body text we aim for AAA contrast where feasible, so the experience comfortably out-performs its own minimum. Accessibility is reviewed as part of how we build — not audited once at the end.

  • Built around CAST's Universal Design for Learning (UDL 3.0)
  • Full keyboard access with clearly visible focus states
  • prefers-reduced-motion respected by default
AA

WCAG 2.2 minimum across the whole product and site.

AAA

body-text contrast target where feasible.

80px+

child tap targets.

0

flashing or strobing content. Ever.

This website, too

The marketing site is the first demo.

If the site that sells an accessible product isn't itself accessible, the positioning is a lie to the exact people we're here for. So this site is held to the same floor as the app.

Keyboard & focus

Every interactive element is reachable by keyboard with a visible focus ring, and a skip link jumps straight to content.

Comfort controls

The button in the corner offers calm mode, bigger text, reading spacing and higher contrast — saved for your next visit.

Semantic & responsive

Proper headings and landmarks, descriptive alt text, readable type, and a layout that works down to small phones.

Found an accessibility barrier on this site or in the app? Email support@zooylo.app — we treat it as a bug, not a nice-to-have.

Calm, accessible learning — for every kind of learner.
